After living in Texas most of our lives, we decided in April 2021 to
move to Crawfordsville to be close to our grandchildren. Leslie was
recommended to us, and that was the beginning of our good fortune. We
began looking at big old houses near downtown and Wabash College. Leslie
responded to every eager call, showed us houses, pointed out the
positive elements and cautioned us about the signs of deterioration. We
picked one house that needed lots of work, but our offer was declined
(thank goodness).
Our search narrowed to a single choice when the grey house on the
corner, two doors down from the grandchildren (and their parents, too),
came onto the market. Within an hour of getting this news, we were in
the car heading back to Crawfordsville. Leslie and our son Vic viewed
the property that morning and called us with details and iPhone photos.
It’s a ten hour drive from Denton to Crawfordsville; about halfway
through the trip, we did something I never thought we’d do -- we made an
offer on the house ($10K over the asking price) before ever stepping
inside. We arrived that night and talked more with our son and Leslie.
The owner had decided to allow two more days for offers before
responding, time for us to stew and fret. The prospect of having 6 and 8
year old granddaughters so close by was spellbinding, and we knew by
then from our continuing talks with Leslie that our initial offer was
too low. We wanted to submit the winning bid without paying too much,
and we couldn’t see where that line might be. With Leslie’s depth of
knowledge of the local housing market and her astute understanding of
the buy/sell dynamic, she helped us adjust and refine our offer in more
ways than I’d considered before, not just the dollar amount. Leslie
turned in our re-calculated offer, the sellers reviewed ours and several
others, and when Leslie called with the results she told us “you’ve
bought a house!” In early June, we moved in.
It was a real joy to work with Leslie. We looked a lots of houses with
her; she’d smile, laugh, look us in the eye and tell us the truth. We
never once felt that she was feeding us what we might want to hear or
what might nudge us toward buying. She told us how the cow ate the
cabbage so we could make informed decisions. We might have bought a
leaky fixer-upper to be this close to our kids, but with Leslie’s
guidance and attention to detail we bought a really great home on an
acre and a half, and we see those little girls every day.
Not only is Leslie a tremendous realtor, she’s a remarkable person.
We’ve been three months in our new home now and expect to be here a long
time. But when the time comes to sell, the only name on our list of
realtors will be “Leslie.” She’s terrific.
